Vampire Party

A dream that probably pegs me as a geek. Stupid vampires.

I was a vampire, and I had a lot of vampire friends. I think we were sort of in the White Wolf (tm) World of Darkness (tm), but it didn't make much of a difference. The miscellaneous vampires looked like Joe Brujah (tm), Jane Nosferatu (tm) &c. I guess it was Gothic-Punk (tm), too.

Anyway, I was holding a party for them. It was in a big office building, with elevators and long hallways of identical offices. We were hanging out in a couple of large conference and break rooms. We had loud music playing and a cooler full of plasma Baggies.

I think I either worked in the building or was known to the people who worked there, because I kept fretting about overenthusiastic vampires breaking things, and tried to stay out of sight. Security guards and mortals working late would occasionally come to investigate the noise, and I would rush over and hypnotize them into leaving assured nothing was amiss. They went under pretty quickly -- all I had to do was stare into their eyes and concentrate a little, then say, "You saw nothing here. You will go about your business."

A couple of times, though, I didn't notice an intruder until it was too late. My vampire buddies had already greeted them and pulled them into the middle of the crowd, to be drained by the thirsty partygoers. I was a little annoyed, because this meant I'd not only have to clean up after the party, but also dispose of corpses. Still, everyone seemed to be having a good time.

I looked at my watch. It was only a few minutes until dawn! I ran to the stereo and turned it down. Everyone turned to look at me, and I explained that we had to hurry.

We discussed options, then held a vote.

1. We could barricade the doors of one of the windowless break rooms.
2. We could try to find an unoccupied office and sleep there, after covering the window.
3. We could go to the basement.

Basement won.

Oddly, this building was built on top of a parking garage. Our basement was really the top of the garage, and open at the sides. No protection against the sun at all. It was starting to get light out, too. Everyone was panicking. I don't know why no one thought to go down in the basement of the garage, but we didn't.

I noticed that there were a lot of mattresses about. King and queen mattresses, just strewn about the floor of the garage. Some of the vampires started building mattress forts. Others crowded into a Volkswagen camper van, then stuffed mattresses in somehow (I guess that vampiric strength helped) so that they covered the windows.

I didn't think any of this would help. I was feeling really bad for everyone. This was a horrible party -- I'd gotten everyone killed! It was getting brighter and brighter, and some of the vampires were in pain. Someone's mattress fort fell down, and the occupant spontaneously combusted.

I ran back into the building, alone. In the stairs, there was no sun. I decided that I'd just find a closet to hide in, or stay in one of the rooms with no windows. I knew that when the day started, I'd have to sleep the sleep of the Damned (tm), but one sleeping person wouldn't be terribly suspicious, especially if the people in the building kind of knew me. I could make a little note that said I was on the night shift, but they were fumigating my apartment, please don't wake me up. Yeah.

Then I entered the party room. There was trash everywhere, blood spilled on the floor and walls, and two corpses in the center.

Okay, someone sleeping on the break room couch might be suspicious in the kind of investigation that tends to follow this sort of activity.

The cooler was still half-full of blood bags, so I put the lid on and picked it up. No sense letting it go to waste. I could walk in the hallways and the center rooms without facing any sunlight.

Then I had a good idea. I got into the elevator and opened the hatch at the top. I pressed the button for the top floor.

When the car got to the top, I could see through the open hatch that there was about ten feet between the top of the elevator shaft and the roof of the elevator car. Cool.

I sort of levitated up through the shaft, carrying the cooler. I guess I could fly. That was neat. Anyway, I put the hatch back and sat on the roof of the elevator car. It was really grimy, but there was a good flat place to sit. I sort of wedged myself between some metal protrusions so I wouldn't fall against the wall when I fell asleep.

The elevator went slowly up and down. The shaft was dimly lit by a yellow light at the very top. It was pretty soothing. I felt sleepy, but not supernaturally so. I started drinking the leftover blood bags.

I never did fall asleep. Maybe it was all the blood, or maybe I was an exception. I just rode the elevator up and down all day. It sounded like there was a lot of commotion, what with the corpses and the flaming vampires in the basement and all. I was pretty bored in the elevator shaft.
