A Short Hate
Hate!
I think writing this will really help with my cultural adjustments, since I'm writing this while in a state of "culture fatigue."
I hate it. I cannot stand it any more. When I arrived here two weeks ago, it was still new to me. I had seen it once before, two years ago. I thought maybe time would turn it into a simple landmark that I could ignore when I didn't need to use it.
I was wrong. I can see it everywhere I go in this city of 50,000. It's there, between those buildings. I can see it from anywhere in town. I could walk to the next city, but I'd have to see it the whole way back here. And when I try not to look, someone will mention it, use it as a reference, as a place to meet up with a friend.
Maybe it's the only landmark worth knowing. Maybe I shouldn't try to know the back streets and I should just follow its siren call to guide me around the city. I think I'd hate it more if I gave in. I know I'd hate myself more.
What about it do I hate? I hate every last one of its 166 arches. I hate each and every block of granite, and there are quite a few to hate. I hate its lack of a cementing agent. I loathe its four straight segments. If they were still alive, I could hate the Romans who built it almost 2000 years ago, but as it is, all I can do is hate the initials they carved into some of the rocks. There isn't a single redeeming value along its kilometer of length.
All this hate for a simple aqueduct. Damn.
For a second there, I thought you were hating on the Colosseum.
like a short nap, or a few cookies, this little snippet of hate really hit the spot
like a right hook from an angry boxer, this little snippet of hate really hit the spot
I am wearing angry boxers even as we speak.
I think "sneak" is an adjective.
Well, I guess that's why people come to THINGSIHATE.ORG. (Hint: Not to read Zirealism)
soooooo, why do you hate the aquae-duct?
arbitrary hatred like this requires more explanation, i'm afraid.
There was an interesting topic up for discussion on the radio this morning: We've all heard of irrational fear, but what about irrational hatred? I want to see more posts about really irrational hatred. Lets listen to that word and think about what it means to us:
HAT.......RED. Yes. Everyone, wear the red hat of hatred and LETS GET IRRATIONAL!!
Mmmmm. Oooh, best post ever, twins. Really. SINCERELY.
For the record, I'm glad to see Antwan likes my comic better than Zirealism. Unfortunately, he likes just about everything better than Zirealism, which means that for all I know, he liked my comic less than tapping his forehead lightly against big iron things.
While we're talking hate, I HATED that segment this morning. (About irrational hatred). What a bunch of spastics. Such a lame topic -"call up and tell us what you hate irrationally". And if you noticed, Adam was always sure to ask
"so you recognise that your hatred is completely irrational"
probably to get around those devilish defamation laws.
(Noto Bene Sydney has more defamation/slander lawsuits than New York)
What a spastic
Thingsiirrationallyhate.org.
So much to hate, so little time!
Hey, Antwan got his preserves. WE FOUND A HAIR IN THEM!!! What the hell was that about, cam (one of antwan's really fat friends) foung a string of DARK hair, antwan has dyied his hair white, so it's not his. By the way, Antwan doesn't like his blackberry preserves. send him strawberry.
Antwan thinks he's Andy Warhol?
I hate Kansas, but it's not irrational. I mean come on it's Kansas!
Incedentially I liked tuesday's comic slightly less than tapping my head lightly against iron objects... but then that's something I enjoy to a surprising degree.
Well done Tempo, everyone should have a hobby.
don't you worry. he don't like zirealism neither.
Entitled to his opinion, he is.
Zhivago, where are you living at the mo?
Incidently, I like Andy Clockwise. I've only ever heard one of his songs, though.
Andy Clockwise is good, but his name is .
That's weird, it didn't print the last bit of my sentence. Is there some cencorship program going on around here that no one's told me about?
no shit?
me too
Way to change your name, "Pricecheck"
Now, a little test!
If you're really from BV, tell me: when I compliment the "Tables and Chairs, at the top of Queen Street"
Am I speaking of
a.) The profusion of out-door dining ("al freso" buddy!);
b.) That funky new nightclub (river side of Hooters);
c.) That crazy water-feature (uhh, yeah);
d.) That band from UQ that played a gig (last Friday in the stage bit)
e.) That Asian-Fusion restaurant that's dodgy as a Romanian [insert noun here]
Har HARR!!
Good to see some Aussies around here. I was under the impression that everyone was American. Bonza, You Bewt, etc.
I also feel Pauline Hanson's sentence was too long, but who gives a shit?
As American as Mum and apple hasty pudding!
Well Vinno you clearly DO give a shit (and rightly so) but I think what you mean is that you don't consider this the right forum to discuss it.
But when you consider this is "things I HATE", PH becomes startlingly relevant.
BTW I agree, sentence was inappropriate and she should have got bail, wot wot!
Yay, I didn't know that there were that many aussies around here...but nearly all of you are living in or around Brisvegas, Queensy, etc. Am I the only one living in Vic?
"Fail at" not "fall in" - nice
tell me about it; sometimes i just want to do an Origen
wow. i should check back more often.
I think I hate the aqueduct since it's the only thing in the entire city (Segovia, Spain) that people come for (there's a cathedral here too), and I've had to learn all sorts of things about it and I see it every day and it's just annoying.
